Every
time my family eats pie, my mom brings up the song Andie
McDowell’s character in the movie Michael
sings about pie, and how much she loves it. The movie is strange and
forgettable, but the song is sweet and comes to mind, well, every time I have
pie with mom.

Last weekend we went with friends
to Four
& Twenty Blackbirds in Brooklyn for pie. The owners are two
sweet-toothed Midwestern sisters (from South Dakota to be specific) and have a
team that make famously delicious pies in Gowanus, Brooklyn. My friend Jen is
from South Dakota and insisted that we try the pie. It didn’t take my friend Jen
or Andie McDowell’s pie song to convince me to make the trek to Gowanus for
salted caramel apple pie with whipped cream.

Oh and there was an outfit, of course.
