Ciao Paci

Happy Cinco de Mayo! It’s currently flood-like weather in NYC which strangely doesn’t make me want a margarita any less. Or chips + cheese.
Okay back to being a parent.
We have had Juliette on a strict pace-only in the crib and the car for a few months, but lately she was asking for it all of the time, which made her crabby all of the time because we didn’t (usually) give in (See Juliette in these pics…not adorable as usual right?). There’s conflicting information about when exactly to kill the paci, but we decided our hard stop was two weekends ago.
We put all of her pacifiers in a Ziplock, in another bag, in a closet, on a hard-to-reach shelf. We cut her off the paci cold-turkey, and just thought that would be the best way to do it even though we’ve heard about methods where you cut up all of the paci’s to make them less-desirable. Juliette cried for an hour the first four times we put her down for either her nap or at night, but by Sunday evening it only took 15 minutes, and one week later she still groans for about fifteen minutes, but pretty painless for the most part. If I could do it differently I would have just pulled the paci plug earlier.
We did have one three hour car ride where she didn’t nap the entire time, we just listened to Raffi Live over and over and over and over and over again.
That’s our paci story and we are “sucking” to it 🙂
Have the best Cinco de Mayo mamas – may the margaritas be strong and the pacifiers wherever you want them to be.
