I
have two favorite movies that I think very much define me: Adventures in Babysitting and Breakfast
at Tiffany’s. Each movie displays a female lacking in self-esteem, but is
able to get what they want thanks to their cunningness and the help of others.
While Elisabeth Shue and her best movie to date is underappreciated, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey
Hepburn are deservedly loved by college girls and Capote fans everywhere.

Until
the age of twenty-four I always went by my nickname, Holly, and have loved
Holly Golightly and identified with her faux-aloofness since I saw Breakfast at
Tiffany’s in the fifth grade while having to stay home sick from school. We are
two Holly’s, just trying to make ends meet while still being fab in New York
City. I have watched the movie after breakups with boyfriends, arguments with
friends, and homesickness. It never fails to make me cry and feel better all at
the same time. 

Holly’s
apartment says everything and nothing about her at the same time; there are few
items that give clues to her personality, except that the lack of “stuff” shows
she is insecure with her surroundings and hoping for change. I hope you enjoy my
homage to Holly, Audrey, and her Upper East Side abode.
