How To Halloween

It’s
that time of year again when candy corn and headband-style cat ears are sold
everywhere. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays, probably
because I love dressing up and eating candy, and so it’s all normal and
acceptable right around October 31st.
Besides
the candy corn at every corner situation, the only other Halloween obstacle is
finding an acceptable costume. I am very anti store-bought costume, anti-slutty
cop, anti-not dressing up. So what’s left? I think something clever and
semi-homemade is best, especially if the character you are dressing up as comes
with a cool prop or you can do as a group.
Here
are some of my costumes in recent years, they didn’t cost more than $10, weren’t
overdone, and will leave something to the imagination.

Spotted tanks + tutus form Wet Seal = 101 Dalmatians

More store bought tutus and crowns + already owned leotard and slippers = ballerinas

Troop Beverly Hills with our very own Phyllis Nefler
We bought skirts from Forever 21 and made sashes out of fabric and paint.

Full disclosure this is from a 90’s party we had at our apartment!

I am lucky/unique to say I already owned and kept this practice skating dress that probably dates back to 1996. I included a personally won medal from a skating competition, shiny, tights and a knee bandage to make a very sobbish Nancy Kerrigan.
