Work Wednesday : Interview for What You Deserve i.e THE Job

Although most of my posts are mom-centric, sometimes I like to be in my working-mom-specific shoes. I feel confident spewing advice from that viewpoint as I’ve also been out-of-work and at home a lot with Juliette, and get to connect with moms who work and moms who stay-at-home who I call my mom-friends, or even just friends (wink).

A few weeks back I was watching Morning Joe (my mom and I are Mika fans!) and I forget the exact quote but the general gist was that women deserve more, because they are capable of more. If you want a job you know you can do well, then there’s no reason to go into an interview timid about being the right person for the job.

This concept may sound obvious, but I think so many women, myself included, get more nervous when a job sounds particularly perfect, because the stakes seem so high. On that note, a year or so ago I had been out of work for longer than I was comfortable with, and had a meeting with a recruiter. She told me she was shocked I hadn’t found a job, and that timing was probably just off for me. She let me know I was a huge catch and that I was going to get scooped up fast. I don’t know if it was this extra dose of confidence or the timing was “right” but I found a great job quickly after and walked in the first day feeling that my employer was lucky to have me, and less the other way around.

Here are some resources for getting pumped up for that big interview:

Don’t forget to wear a jacket (it helps me feel professional and “with it”) and good luck!
